Correcting Your Canvas: Laser Removal for Permanent Brow Makeup at JDV Med Spa
Microblading and permanent makeup (PMU) are revolutionary for anyone wanting a “waking up like this” look. However, trends change, and sometimes that bold brow from three years ago doesn’t match your style today. If you’re dealing with brows that have turned an unnatural shade of blue, orange, or grey, if the color is too dark, or you are unhappy with the shape, JDV Med Spa is here to help.
With locations in Canton, Ohio and Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, our expert team uses the most advanced laser technology available to safely and effectively remove unwanted brow pigment.
Why Laser for Brows?
Unlike traditional body tattoos, permanent makeup pigments are often made of different materials, including iron oxides or synthetic blends. These pigments are usually deposited more superficially, which is why PMU removal often requires fewer sessions than a standard body tattoo.
At JDV Med Spa, we prefer the PicoSure laser because it uses ultra-short picosecond pulses to shatter pigment without the intense heat associated with older lasers.
Benefits of PicoSure for Brows
- Precision: We can target specific parts of the brow if you only want to adjust the “tails” or the “fronts.”
- Safety for Hair: A common myth is that lasers will permanently remove your natural brow hair. While the laser may temporarily “frost” or lighten the hair color, it usually grows back with no problem.
- Fewer Sessions: Many clients see significant fading after just 1–4 sessions, spaced out at least 6 weeks apart, compared to the 8+ sessions often needed for body art.
What to Expect During Treatment
A brow removal session at JDV Med Spa is surprisingly quick—often taking less than two minutes.
Consultation: We assess the ink color and depth. Some pigments (like those with titanium dioxide) can “oxidize” or turn a darker color before fading; we’ll prepare you for exactly what to expect.
Medical History: The Dr. or Nurse Practitioner will go over your medical history and make sure you are a good candidate for this procedure. They also perform the procedure.
Comfort: We use a Zimmer Cryo chiller to blow cold air on the area, which significantly numbs the sensation.
Post-Treatment: You may experience mild redness or swelling for a few hours. Unlike saline removal, which involves breaking the skin and scabbing, laser removal is much cleaner and has a faster recovery time.
Timing Your Next Set of Brows
If your goal is to get new microblading or “powder brows,” timing is everything. We recommend waiting at least 8 to 12 weeks after your final laser session before applying new permanent makeup. This ensures the skin is fully healed and the immune system has finished clearing out the old pigment particles, providing a clean canvas for your artist.
